Colin Roberts
Colin Roberts' photos are taken through the seasons which shows the shows the changes to landscape throughout the year. He travels around England, especially near his home in Hampshire, taking photos of landscape and nature.
This photograph by Colin Roberts shows a poppy from a poppy field. The colours are bright and the poppy is shown to the side of the photo, which allows the viewer to see the background of the poppies in the field and the cloudy sky. The photo has been taken using a fast shutter speed and a low aperture as there is no movement in the photo and the camera has focused on one poppy making the rest of the photo look blurred.
I chose to look at this photo as I would like to look at landscape photography but I also want to focus on one part of the landscape such as a flower or a leaf as it gives the photo more of a meaning and makes it look more interesting. Because the photo has been taken to focus on one flower the camera angle has made it look larger than the other flowers.
I like this photo as the colours of the poppies work well against the colours of the sky, which are darker so they contrast. It’s set out as a landscape photo rather than a portrait meaning that more of the flowers are shown in the background. The darker parks of the clouds contrast against the lighter parts of the clouds creating tone and texture.

The colours in this photo are quite dark making the daisy stand out more. The focal point of this photo is the daisy as the colours are lighter and the focus is sharp whereas in the rest of the photo it is out of focus and slightly blurred. The composition of the photo is interesting the bottom half of the photo is the daisy against the grass background with the tree in the distance shown in the top half of the photo. I think that a fast shutter speed was used, as there is no movement in the photo and that a medium number aperture was used as it isn’t too blurred or focused on the background.
I chose to look at this photo as it is based on landscape photography and shows a tree and grass but that isn’t the focus like most other landscape photographers would do, he’s focused it on the flower instead which makes the photo different and focuses it on something else.
I like this photo because of the layout and the darkness of the tree in the distance contrasts against the colours of the daisy, which are light and stand out. I think that this photo was taken in the summer as the flower is alive and the leaves on the trees are green. The weather also looks quite sunny.
